Always Bet on the Dark Horse

From the beginning, Defiance was a Dark Horse. The unlikely winner that really pays off when it wins. Historically, Defiance has been a winner. From it’s ingenuity to it’s industrial achievements, Defiance has offered opportunity since it’s incorporation in 1822.

Former Mayor and local photographer, Ed Bronson, captured some of that innovation above at the annual Colt Show, just one of many gatherings held at now Triangle Park. The neighborhood shown above is still easily recognizable and with the renovations at 651 Clinton Street done in 2021 we hope the building and park will serve Defiance again as a cultural gathering place for its citizens.

So what is The Dark Horse Social Club? In the current economy with its supply chain and labor shortages, starting any kind of new food venue seems pretty risky. However, Defiance citizens are looking for unique spaces to socialize, eat and have a great time. We thought by creating more of a “club” we could organize social events that celebrate our vibrant downtown, our community history and heritage and offer our members first chance at these limited seating events. Joining The Dark Horse Social Club will get you advanced notice of upcoming events and reservation opportunities. There is no need for individual or couples memberships. Each member can bring one guest to any event. So a married couple need only buy one membership and both can come to the party. Individuals can also buy that same membership and bring a guest to any event. Discounted ticket purchases are limited to 2 tickets per membership. The $25 a year membership will go to offset costs associated with putting on events such as liquor licensing, seating and entertainment equipment.
